Sweet and spicy, this smoothie packs all the health benefits of ginger while tasting great. The other two main ingredients, papaya and carrots, add a range of further nutrients that are listed below.
Ginger: Ginger can help relieve nausea, gastrointestinal distress and inflammation. It also has antioxidant effects.
Papaya: Papayas contain papain; an enzyme that helps with the digestion of proteins. In addition to that, they are also rich in the antioxidants carotene, vitamin C and flavonoids.
Carrots: Carrots are rich in beta-carotene and fiber. They are also a good source of antioxidants.
Ingredients (makes 2 glasses):
3 medium sized carrots
3 dates (fresh if possible)
1 heaped teaspoon fresh, finely cut ginger
a dash of cinnamon and a smaller dash of nutmeg
4 ice cubes
1 cup water
Put all the ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth.
