Yesterday, I tried a new green smoothie recipe, and as it turned out very well and was quite popular at home, I’m sharing it here today. The majority of the ingredients I used for this smoothie are high in vitamin C, so a glass or two a day can contribute to achieving your recommended daily intake of this vitamin. The ingredients in this smoothie that are rich in vitamin c are: kiwi, apple, lemon juice and spinach.
What do we need vitamin C for?
Vitamin C helps with repairing your blood vessels, cells, gums, bone and teeth. It can help improve immune function, therefore making you more resistant to infection. Vitamin C is also necessary for the absorption of iron.
Because of the relations between vitamin C and iron absorption, I included ingredients that are rich in iron as well. The iron-rich ingredients I used are: spinach and wheatgrass powder.
Ingredients (makes 2 small glasses or 1 big glass):
2 big handfuls spinach
2 teaspoons lemon juice
2 teaspoons wheatgrass powder (optional)
4 big ice cubes
1/2 cup water
Put all the ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth!
