Staying on track on holiday

Are you currently working towards a fitness related goal and have a holiday coming up? Do you feel like you have to choose between enjoying your holiday and completely ruining your progress or being miserable on your holiday just to stay on track?

Don’t worry! It doesn’t have to be that way. Enjoy your holiday- we don’t get them that often, so don’t ruin yours by stressing out too much!

To make sure you stay on track towards your goals stress-free, here are a few easy things you can do.

Walk enough.

Instead of sitting in a “city tours” bus or driving everywhere, explore your surroundings by walking. You’ll get to know your holiday destination even better, you might discover beautiful places off the beaten track, and you’ll keep your energy expenditure up at the same time.

Choose active things to do.

Sure, take that day or two just lying at the beach and enjoying the sun. But to mix it up, also schedule some active things to do! Depending on where you are and what you enjoy, you could go hiking, climbing, swimming, rent a bicycle, go canoeing,… There are so many options!

Drink enough water.

Make sure you stay hydrated, especially if you’re in a warmer climate. In addition to just being important for your health and general wellbeing, staying hydrated might also help keep you from overeating.

Indulge in moderation.

Definitely enjoy the local cuisine and indulge a little, but indulge in moderation. You don’t need five scoops of ice cream for it to taste good! Eat slowly and mindfully, and don’t force yourself to keep eating when you’re full. If you want to try a dessert but feel full already, maybe sharing it with your travel partner might be an option.

Do you have any strategies that help you stay on track when on holiday?
